Lesley Neuman
and Phil West

Lesley has been training horses for a number of years and is considering becoming one of the BLM's "cottage contractors." The cottage contractors are small training operators who have proper facilities and understand these horses. Their purpose is to gentle older BLM horses so that they will be more appropriate for inexperienced adopters.

Lesley came in mid-week and relieved Dennis Bright who had to depart for another engagement. She worked with John and picked up on some of his techniques, then gentled a few horses on her own.

Phil West is also a successful trainer, training mustangs for police work among other accomplishments. He has a quiet, persistent style with the horses and seems to get very good results. While Phil is best known for his mounted police work and his demonstrations on Abby, he's pretty versatile around equines and it's well worth one's time to take note of his techniques.
