LRTC Wild Horse Mentors'
WILD HORSE WORKSHOP 2001
Part Seven

Mike Horrigan

Mike runs the prison horse training program at the Warm Springs Correctional Facility near Carson City, NV. Mike and his program are both known for creative and quiet approaches to working with wild horses and he turns out some mighty good animals.

Mike has taught in our weekend programs, but this was his first appearance at our week-long workshop. We expect him to be a regular.

Near the end of a long day

As for Vincent the wild horse... The image on the right was taken on Day 4 of the workshop; a couple of young participants showing off their mane braiding skills.

The horse seems pretty comfortable with it all.

Contraceptive Issues
The BLM is studying the use of contraceptives on some wild horse herds. While this approach will not completely resolve population growth rate issues, it may significantly reduce the numbers of horses which have to be removed from the range.
